Silver Linings

Welcome Spring!  On Sunday, in your honor, I dug up the now sad looking kale and planted a crayola array of spring delights. And you returned the favor by letting the sun shine cloud free on the first chilly day of spring.  But now it's the second day of spring and it's gloomy, gray and wet once again.  That's okay.  Silver linings.  My new cream and black checkered umbrella, after days of traveling around through Lisbon inside my backpack, finally got to see the gray of day in Seattle.  Good stuff.   

Confessions of a coat whore

I know I should be spending the few minutes of the day that I'm not working or thinking about sleeping (thank you jet lag) recounting my adventures in Spain and Portugal.  But seriously, since leaving work yesterday, I can't get this coat out of my head. 

I'd like to think that's only because I was so bored on the bus yesterday that my creativity OCD went AWOL and tried in vain to keep me entertained.  But honestly, it's just pathetic.  I've already run through about twelve different scenarios in my head about how I could get my hot little hands on the coat.

Check if there's a cheap flight to San Fransisco, Los Angeles, NYC.  Go to H&M.  Buy coat.  Immediately fly back to Seattle.

Contact a courier service to pick up the coat and FedEx it to me.

Make friends with someone who lives in Sweden and have them order me a coat online (yes, H&M only allows you to buy online in Sweden).

Call a store in The States and talk them into taking my credit card number and MAILING ME THAT COAT!

Find someone who lives near a H&M and sweet talk them into being my bitch helping me out.

But I know imposing upon someone to go pick up a coat for me is insane.  A starving child, no, but a coat, yes.  So H&M?  If you're listening, I'd bet that coat fits me in a 34 or a 36.  Please send post haste.

Language Barrier

Taking a break from all that walking around and sightseeing to go see a movie in Madrid was a great idea.  Because even though our Espanol was pretty bad, I knew the movie was only subtitled in Spanish and that meant it would be accompanied by the original audio.  Smart!  Except, if you're familiar with the movie, you already know only a part of the movie was filmed in English.  So, yeah I saw Babel.  But I'm kind of in the dark about what happened in a good one third of the film.  Way to go smartypants.

Proof

By the time you read this post, The Dude and I will be in Spain or Portugal (he still won't tell me which one) celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary.  But let's go back for a minute.  During our wedding reception, 5 years ago today, The Dude's best man decided to go around and interview our guests with an audio recorder.  What a great idea, right?  I know!  Wait, it gets better. 

Neilson is a bit of a procrastinator like both of us and he never quite got around to giving us a copy of the audio.  Which is awesome, because I remembered it last week when I was trying to figure out what I could possibly get The Dude to express just how much I love him and a mixed tape came to mind.  Then I remember those missing audio files from our wedding!  (And that cassette tape from a party at my apartment during college on the first night we met when we sang bad karaoke together but that's a story for another time and something I'm pretty sure should never be shared with the InternetS).

I dialed up Neilson and he kindly fit organizing the audio files into his busy schedule.  So now I've just finished up loading them onto my iPod to take with us on vacation.  I'm trying to be good and not listen to audio before I surprise The Dude on our anniversary.  But when I was loading up my shuffle with the Annivesary Playlist this one started playing and I just couldn't resist sharing.  Download I_Love_her_so_much.m4a (1505.0K) (I hope you have iTunes, otherwise, good luck.)

During the audio, a couple of male friends (Todd and Steve) are bantering back and forth, then a female friend (Lu, short for Lucinda) chimes in.  We have some great friends and they crack me up all the time.  Sometimes, even five years later.

So much can happen in 5 years.  So very, very much. Since then Todd literally lost hundreds of pounds and then he went a got married to this really great person, my maid of honor quit her awesome job with the Democrats and is traveling around the world for SEVEN MONTHS, I met Sally and we became fast friends, and last month The Dude and I had the honor of attending Lu's beautiful wedding.  Here's proof.

If we were rich, I would have flown all our friends out to Europe to celebrate our anniversary with us, but since we're not, the audio is going to have to do until we return.  We love and miss you all so much!  Well, not that much.  I mean, we're in Europe for god's sake! but we'll be back soon!  Too soon!   Viva la amor!
