I'm not over.

A couple weeks ago someone introduced me to a new band called Carolina Liar.  Last week they played a Seattle show at the High Dive down in Fremont.  That place is running distance from my house.  I thought about going.  Heck, I even emailed a couple people to see if they were interested.  Then I promptly forgot about it and decided I was too tired to go out that night.  Then what did I do?  Go to sleep early?  Nope, I stayed up until midnight doing nothing.  What a waste of time.  I should have just gone to that show.  I have a feeling the next time they come to town they're going to be playing in a larger venue. 

Anyways, a couple days after not going to see that show I should have seen, I downloaded Carolina Liar's Coming To Terms and I really like it.  Especially that catchy single I'm Not Over.  The drums at the beginning.  Killer.

Free (and/or cheap) things to do in Seattle.

Elliott Bay Book Co. in Pioneer Square  I suggest you grab a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich in the basement cafe before or after.  Yummy!

University Book Store  With locations in the U-district and downtown they have a lot of great speakers and most of them are free.

Science on Tap  I always miss this event even though I'm completely fascinated by the premise.  Oh, and there's one tonight!

Seattle Architecture Foundation  Okay, so these events aren't free but they are inexpensive and educational.  In other words, totally worth it.  So far I've done the Art Deco and Design Details tour. Both were fabulous and now I have extra ammo to be that obnoxious Seattlite that can't stop chattering about her favorite subject.

Of course I'm leaving out the Seattle Public Library, Seattle Art Museum's Olympic Sculpture Park, The Henry every Thursday, Gas Works Park, and the giant hat and boots park in Georgetown.  What else did I forget?

Time after time.

A couple weeks ago an evite showed up in my inbox from friends inviting me to 80s party.  I am way more excited about this than I should be.  I can't stop thinking about what awful 80s fashions I'm going to sport.  I have visions of fanny packs, cassette tapes and walkmen, giant headphones, over the top makeup and hair, giant shoulderpadded blazers, Varnet sunglasses, legwarmers, fingerless gloves, blue eyeshadow and off the shoulder shirts.  What am I forgetting folks?  Leave it in the comments and maybe I'll send you fantastic mixed tape!

Of course the 80s have been back in fashion for a few years now, but I thought folks had already moved on.  Obviously not.  Awesome, but seriously I need them to go away, like before the end of summer.  Because I'm starting to think that come this fall legwarmers might be the new kneehighs.  And the fact that this thought is even crossing my mind is totally frightening.

So, I know, for the Seattle folks in the crowd it probably would have been a good idea to mention this before now, but I picked up tickets to the Sub Pop Comedy Show months ago.  That's before I knew David Cross would be participating.  And, more importantly, before it sold out.  So I apologize. 

I will say that if I didn't already have tickets for that I would be headed to Jules Maes down in Georgetown to see Vanderbuilte tomorrow.  I mean, how could you not love a band who describes the event as, "We’re coming to throw garbage in your recycling containers and drink all your soda pop!"  

If only I could be two places at once.  Oh, and then a girlfriend invited me to her BBQ which I'd love to attend, but of course, I already have plans.  I swear I spend most Friday nights home alone painting my nails and reading teen fiction.  So make that three, just this once.  No?  Fine.

Yep, the camping trip got cut short when it started to rain around 10 PM on July 4th and didn't let up all night or the next morning. One person in our group got flooded out of his tent and ended up moving to his car in the middle of the night. No bueno. Of course now it couldn't be lovelier weather out there. Oh, and I didn't make it to the ocean. Now I'm really jonesing to get out there even more.

Gone camping.

It's currently thundering overhead.  Cross your fingers that I don't die.  Or at least get struck.  By lightening.  Ouch.
