I probably should have mentioned this earlier but I did actually end up going to Astoria, Oregon for Memorial Day weekend. It was overcast and drizzling most of the time. Uncrowded and quiet. I loved it so much I'm sort of scared to go back.
My mom joined me and we spent the whole time sipping coffee, chatting, reading and exploring. On Sunday we ended up at the Astoria Column. Little kids were climbing to the top and throwing paper airplanes and balsam wood gliders down. They looked like birds soaring, slowing descending.
Astoria, don't change a thing.
