Oh Senator Obama. You had me at "share the same goals".
"I think that I may disagree with Sen. Clinton or Sen. Edwards on
how to get things done, but we share the same goals. We're all
Democrats, we all believe in civil rights, we all believe in equal
rights," said the senator from Illinois.
"I think they're good
people, they are patriots and they are running because they think they
can lead this country to a better place, and I don't want the campaign
in this stage to degenerate into so much tit-for-tat back-and-forth
that we lose sight of why all of us are doing this."
Obama also warned his supporters to play fair.
"If I hear my own supporters engaging in talk that I think is ungenerous or misleading or in some way is unfair, then I will speak out forcefully against them, and I hope the other campaigns take the same approach," he said.
After watching the Las Vegas Democratic Debate last night courtesy of MSNBC online, I paid a visit to www.barackobama.com and picked up a t-shirt and a bumper sticker. I'm tired of the uneducated accusing him of being Muslim and against a woman's right to choose (both of which are false). I frankly wouldn't care if he was a Muslim but apparently some people are so blinded by the fanaticism of a tiny minority that they assume all Muslims are filled with hate. Who does that remind me of? Oh right.
But you don't see me ruling out all Christians just because of some crazy nutjob who believes he has a direct line to God and is convinced he can bench press 2,000 pounds (physically impossible by the way...unless you have Jesus on your side. Go Pat!) This country could use some logic, common sense, and unity. Go Obama go.
That said, Clinton and Edwards are okay too. I actually really like Edwards' message about kicking all the lobbyist out of Washington. But what I don't enjoy is hearing about his dad and the mill over and over again. I also don't like how he tries to spin individual donations Clinton and Obama have received as "corporate dollars". As anyone who has ever donated to a political campaign (or bought a t-shirt) knows, you must disclose who you work for. That doesn't mean your company is lobbying or even organized to support a particular campaign.
And Clinton, she's a fine choice too, but like Defective Yeti pointed out weeks ago do we really want it going down the path of Bush (Sr.), Clinton (Bill), Bush (W), Clinton (Hillary), Bush (Jeb in 2012...no!). Besides Obama is so damn inspiring. The audacity of hope indeed. I can't wait to get that shirt.
